To pair with the highly anticipated blockbuster’s release Marvel Entertainment and Sony Pictures Animation requested a robust product line that would encapsulate the world of Miles Morales’ Spiderverse. I created visually unique record designs for each release with their own theme centering around the award winning animation stills while working in visual nods to the original comic book source material. The liner notes’ typographic system was created to mimic comic book speech blocks and to allow distinct layouts for each individual record.

For the Target™ exclusive variant of the soundtrack the team and I focused on the darkside of the Spiderverse. The color palettes of each of the film’s villains are visual themes throught the package design, black and white “Spot” and black and purple “Prowler” vinyl colors were selected as an homage to the film’s newly introduduced characters.

I was fortunate enough to work in close collaboration with the Sony Pictures Animation team, pulling from the studio’s in progress concept art, visual research, and storyboard archive for the Across The Spiderverse film. We seamlessly integrated franchise assets into our comic book inspired typographic system as a salute to the franchise’s vast and diverse fanbase. Sony Pictures would later release these source files as a hardcover book release, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: The Art of the Movie.

The above picture disc design was created to commemorate the introduction of fan favorite Hobie “Spiderpunk” Brown, I personally created the character collages using Sony’s animation assets to reflect the rebellious nature of his persona with copious ammounts of spray paint overspray and aggresive texturing. The side breaks of the release were unified into the mandatory legal line to create a character focused record design. The 7” single was included into limited edition bundles alongside the physical release of the film to boost preorder sales.

To continue the robust rollout of the Spiderverse project I personally illustrated the above CD cover variants for each product distributor. Every cover’s color palette was inspired by Sony’s award winning character designs, while combining in parts of their own narrative journey. Miles’ cover is graffiti spray paint textured like his Brooklyn roots, Miguel’s is based off of a real life circuit board, while Gwen’s cover was created completely with watercolors. The film’s signature benday dots are seen throughout.

Focusing on the glitchy fascade of the album, the standard record package was reformatted as an 
“art album” to accomodate the rising popularity of album art as a display piece. The clients accepted 
my proposal to create a collectible set of 3” novelty and branded miniature turnable to round out the
 robust release of the film. All three miniature record jackets alone are abstract art, but when placed 
together reveal the official album art.
